Over the past year or so, social media for business has become one of the buzz phrases . No doubt you receive emails inviting you to social media events, maybe you’ve attended or will soon be attending one? 
 
Over the last 6 months I thought if I'm going to dedicate a percentage of my time to this, I want to see what it will actually do for our company and along the way I was mildly surprised at some of my findings. Perhaps these match some of yours; I’d certainly love to get some feedback from people to find out how you’re getting on with it. What are we doing wrong, if anything?

It's important to make sure that you're using the correct software version for the current tax year. This helps to ensure that you've got the correct legislation settings and structure in place for your processing.

If you check your version number, via Help > About, this tells you the version you're currently using, but doesn't tell you whether you've used this version for the whole of the tax year. For example, you may have processed the first pay periods in the tax year before updating your software to the new version.

How To Use Steps

Activity steps provide a way to break activities down into smaller units and track the completion of those units. For example, the activity Prepare for System Integration and Testing might contain the following steps:

  • Establish test cases and test procedures
  • Create test data
  • Update SDFs

You can add as many steps to an activity as you need: some activities will require more steps to complete than others and some activities may require no additional steps at all. If progress occurs on the step, enter a percent complete in the Step % Complete column, or mark the Completed checkbox to indicate the step is 100% complete.

As you may have read in the press recently, HMRC are planning a fairly large change to the way in which all businesses must pay their employees' tax and NI.  This is known as RTI or Real Time Information.  This is what HMRC say on their website....

"Real Time Information (RTI) is being introduced to improve the operation of PAYE. It will make the PAYE system easier for employers and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to operate, and employees will receive information more quickly. It will also help support the introduction of Universal Credits.

Outlook 2010 has the ability to link to social media; currently Facebook, LinkedIn but not Twitter. 
However, a quick Google search found a connector created and published on
Developer Fusion

Simple to set up and even simpler to use with the preview pane on, social connectors give you a quick view of your contacts' page.
